Consumerism, spending a lot of money on items that aren't necessary or we already have but need more, like clothes. We are all accustomed to buy items that aren't helpful to us or is already provided and we continue to do it after purchasing an item. We have all these different ads in TV or the internet that persuades us to buy that item to fit in with people who have it. In article, "Is Consumerism Killing Our Creativity", by Jocelyn K. Glei she states that our brain fires on a great idea when we see an item in, "What if I tried this?" getting our instincts on in I need this.
From research, "As Consumerism Spreads, Earth Suffers, Study Says" by Hiullary Mayell in her statistics it shows that approximately 1.7 billion people belong to the consumer class, meaning they are addicted to unhealthy food, big houses, and more or better cars.
We are letting our greediness as a distraction to the items that are useless or we already own but we feel we need more in our way. When we lack the money to buy an item we go with our credit cards for our consumptions and later it leads our future income at a very high rate, making us incapable to provide ourselves with food or shelter or giving us a harder time to live having to deal with these incomes.
From the chart above, the working, the middle, and the high class show a percentage of consumers in the word's private consumption, and as you can see the high class consume 76.6% while the others consume less than that.
Overall, consumerism is affecting our minds and leading us to poverty and harder lives with the distractions. We mustn't let this affect us because it could be you next if you continue to buy items that aren't necessary or we already have.
